On May 16 and 17, 2022, further test drives were performed with the GSM Niedersachsen 22. For this purpose, the Haringvliet, a coastal inland waterway in the Netherlands, was used as test field. With a length of 28 km and a width of 795 – 3150 m, the Haringvliet is ideally suited for extensive maneuvers.
Various maneuvers were performed to investigate the hydrodynamics. The relationship between the rudder setting and the direction of motion of the test vessel was determined on the basis of the following maneuvers:
- Turning circles
- Zig-zag maneuver
- R maneuver
Furthermore, an additional high-precision Inertial Measurement Unit was installed and tested, which will provide improved information on the ship’s movement in the future.
The latest video „AutoBin Test Drive Haringvliet“ shows the performed driving maneuvers in time-lapse, recorded by drone footage and implemented on-board cameras.
